PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) _ A Bristol man has pleaded guilty to a federal gun charge after authorities say he broke into a home in Portsmouth and stole more than a dozen weapons.
Rhode Island's U.S. attorney announced Wednesday that 42-year-old David Welch pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to one count of being a felon in possession of firearms.
Under a binding plea agreement accepted by the court, he faces a sentence of 10 years in prison when he is sentenced in October.
Authorities say Welch admitted breaking into the residence last December and taking weapons including a revolver and four semi-automatic handguns. He said he stole the guns so he could sell all or some of them.
Prosecutors say Welch had previously been convicted in state court on drug trafficking charges.
