TAUNTON, Mass. (WLNE) – The Bristol-Plymouth Regional Technical School has shut down its varsity and junior varsity football programs for the next week due to an increase in coronavirus cases among the two teams.

Superintendent Dr. Alexandre Magalhaes announced Tuesday that the decision was made in coordination with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and the City of Taunton Board of Health.

Activities for the two teams are suspended until Monday, Sept. 27, unless more positive COVID tests are reported.

Students that have been identified as close contacts were alerted by the school nurse and given close contact protocols.

The City of Taunton recommends that students exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms get a PCR test.
