BRISTOL, R.I. (WLNE) – Today’s parade celebration in Bristol was not the only thing that looked different this year. The Patriotic Exercises, another big part of Bristol’s Fourth of July celebration looked different too.

The crowd was spaced apart in their chairs and plenty of masks were worn.

The microphone was even sanitized between each speaker.

Even though the ceremony looked different, the sense of American pride was evident on the nation’s birthday.

“Don’t mind if I cry a little. I thought we would never get to this point. In March, I said if we have to have patriotic exercises on Zoom, we’re going to do it to keep the celebration continuous.”

“Even as we remain safely and socially distant, nothing will stop our community from coming together to honor and celebrate the birth of our nation.”

The town determined to leave its streak unbroken, as the host of the nation’s oldest Fourth of July celebration.
