Brockton man pleads guilty to killing family members

BROCKTON, Mass. (AP) – A Brockton man has pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the strangling deaths of his wife and 9-year-old daughter four years ago.

Plymouth District Attorney Timothy Cruz said 46-year-old Mark Benoit entered the pleas on Tuesday in Brockton Superior Court and was sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Forty-one-year-old Cindy Benoit and Sarah Benoit were found dead in bed at home March 22, 2007. Prosecutors said Mark Benoit told police he choked them with his hands because he was depressed.

Mark Benoit also cut his own neck, wrists and ankles and said he killed Sarah because he meant to kill himself.

Prosecutors said he left a four-page note with his wife's body blaming her, drugs, society and the loss of two babies for his despair. The couple also had a son, then 18.
