Brown Basketball Schedule Includes PC, URI, Bryant, and the Georgetown Hoyas
Brown news release…
Providence, R.I. – Brown men’s basketball head coach Mike Martin has released his team’s 2015-16 schedule, highlighted by non-league games against Georgetown, Providence, SMU and Rhode Island as well as a match-up against Marist in the Hall of Fame Shootout at the Mohegan Sun Arena. The Bears launch their Ivy League schedule at Yale on January 16.
"We feel this is a challenging non-conference schedule that will hopefully prepare us for the rigors of the Ivy League season,” said Martin. “It’s important for us to play the other Division I programs in Rhode Island, who all expect to be at the top of their respective conferences. Both SMU and Georgetown project as NCAA Tournament programs again this year and these games allow us to play in cities that have a large contingent of Brown alumni."
Brown opens its season on Friday, November 13, traveling to Jersey City, NJ to face St. Peter’s. Martin’s squad launches its 13-game home schedule on Monday, November 16, hosting Holy Cross at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
All of Rhode Island’s Division I teams are on the schedule, with the Bears hosting Rhode Island on December 30 in the 159th meeting between the two Ocean State universities.
The Bears head downtown to the Dunkin Donuts Center to battle the Providence Friars on Saturday, November 21. Brown has won two of the last three games against the Friars, including a 77-67 victory last season. Bryant is on the Bears’ schedule with Brown facing the Bulldogs on December 5 in Smithfield.
The Bears also host non-league home games against New Hampshire (11/24), Central Connecticut (12/2), Bethune Cookman (12/28), and Daniel Webster (1/9).
Additional non-league road games are scheduled against Niagara (November 18), SMU in Dallas, TX on November 29, and Georgetown on December 7 in Washington, DC.
Brown faces Marist in the Hall of Fame Shootout on December 22 at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT, and will travel to Maine on January 2 to complete its non-league road schedule.
The 14-game Ivy League Playoffs begins with back-to-back games against Yale. Martin’s team travels to New Haven on January 16 and the Bulldogs make the return trip to Providence on January 23.
Ivy rivals Princeton (1/29), Penn (1/30), Cornell (2/5), Columbia (2/6), Dartmouth (2/26) and Harvard (2/27) will also make appearances at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
