Captures 300th Career Win in Bears 74-50 Defeat over
Hanover, NH- Brown women's basketball coach Jean Marie Burr
captured her 300th career win when the squad defeated Dartmouth
College 74-50 this evening at Leede Arena. The win improves Brown
to 11-6 overall with a 2-1 mark in the Ivy League, while Dartmouth drops to 2-14
and 0-2 on the year.
Four Bears scored in double figures, as sophomore guard
Lauren Clarke (Colts Neck, NJ) led the offense with 18 points on 4-of-8 shooting
from the floor and a perfect 8-of-8 performance from the free-throw
line. Junior guard Sheila Dixon (Schenectady, NY) followed behind
with 15 points and five rebounds.
Faziah Steen's 15 points and six rebounds led the Dartmouth
attack, while Sasha Dosenko followed with 14 points and eight rebounds.
Tia Dawson pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds and added five points.
The Bears gained a 32-27 lead over the Big Green at halftime
and used the strength of 40 percent shooting from the floor and an 8-of-10
effort from the free throw line to never allow Dartmouth to gain a lead.
Clarke tallied 10 of her 18 points in the first half, while Daniels
netted seven of her 13 in the first despite the Big Green holding the Bears to
just 31 percent shooting.
After the half, the Bears continued to roll and went on an
13-5 run in the first four and half minutes to gain a 45-32 lead over the Big
Green and set the tone for the remainder of the game. Dixon had a
solid second half for the Bears scoring 13 of her 15 points, as Brown went 40
percent from the field and held Dartmouth to just 30 percent shooting.
The Bears out-rebounded the Big Green 46-35 and forced
Dartmouth into 15 turnovers. Adding to the Bears scoring were
co-captains Aileen Daniels (Waldwick, NJ) and Hannah Passafuime (Soquel, CA) 13
and 15 points, respectively. Passafuime also led the team in
rebounding with eight, while also handing out three assists.
The Bears will now travel to Harvard on Sunday, January 29,
for a 2 p.m. tip-off vs. the Crimson.
