Monmouth (NJ) knocks off Bryant 81-76 in OT

      SMITHFIELD, R.I. (AP) – Jesse Steele had 19 points and Monmouth
(N.J.) rallied from an 11-point deficit to knock off Bryant 81-76
in overtime Saturday.
      The Hawks (6-14, 2-6 Northeast Conference), who came in having
lost nine of their last 10, ended a five-game skid and snapped the
longest winning streak (four games) in the Bulldogs' NCAA Division
I history.
      With Bryant (6-14, 4-4) ahead 50-39 with 13:26 to go, Monmouth
used a 30-13 run to lead 69-63 with 38.4 seconds left.
      The Bulldogs' Raphael Jordan hit a 3-pointer with 5.5 seconds to
go to tie it at 72 and force overtime.
      Steele's fifth 3-pointer put the Hawks ahead for good, 77-76,
with 3:21 left and four free throws by Ed Waite sealed it.
      Marcus Ware added a career-high 18 points for the Hawks.
      Cecil Gresham had 26 points to lead the Bulldogs, who hit 10 of
18 3-pointers in the first half and finished with a school-record
