Bryant Has Both Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week Honors in the NEC
Bryant news release…
SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University football seniors Chad Ward (Delray Beach, Fla.) and Brandon Dagnesses (Miami, Fla.) have been named the Northeast Conference Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for their outstanding efforts in Saturday’s victory over in-state rival Brown.
The honor is the second in Ward’s career while Dagnesses takes home his first weekly honor. Ward caught eight passes for a career-high 180 yards and two touchdowns and Dagnesses made four tackles, recovered a fumbled and intercepted a pass in the endzone.
In one of the best performances of his career, Ward accounted for both Bryant touchdowns against the Bears. He hauled in a 24-yard pass to put Bryant on the board in the second quarter before giving the Black and Gold the lead with a 37-yard touchdown reception with less than a minute to play in the third quarter. Ward then helped the Bulldogs extend their lead as he made a diving catch inside Brown territory to convert a 3rd-and-19 play. The 180 receiving yards are the fifth-most in a single game in program history and seven of his eight receptions resulted in either a first down or a touchdown.
Dagnesses was a key part of a Bryant defense that forced five turnovers, including four inside its own 10-yard line. Dagnesses put a stop to Brown’s opening drive of the second half, recovering a fumble at the Bryant 8 to keep the game tied at 10-10. Then, with the game on the line, Dagnesses made a leaping interception in the back of the endzone to seal the Bulldog victory.
