Bryant Men’s Lacrosse Takes Down Brown To Claim Ocean State Cup

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Aidan Goltz scored five times and Jack Lonsinger and Timmy Hackett recorded hat tricks as the Bryant University men’s lacrosse team won the 2023 Ocean State Cup with a 17-12 victory over Brown on Tuesday night at Beirne Stadium.

With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 10-3 overall and finish the season 6-1 at home. Bryant’s victory also secured its fifth Ocean State Cup in program history.

Goltz paced one of the nation’s most potent offenses with his sixth hat trick of the year. Lonsinger added his seventh hat trick of the year, while Timmy Hackett finished with three goals and an assist. Kevin Groeninger and Johnny Hackett each recorded three-point nights.

Nathan Laliberte won 14-of-26 faceoffs.

  • Timmy Hackett opened the scoring before Brown scored twice in a minute to take a 2-1 lead.

  • Mason Drouin made it 5-3 at the end of the first quarter.
  • Back-to-back goals from Lonsinger and then a rocket from Goltz gave Bryant an 8-4 lead in the second quarter.
  • The Bulldogs would hold an 8-5 lead at the break.
  • Jacob Alexander opened the second half scoring as he won the faceoff and raced down the field, bouncing a shot past the keeper.
  • Goltz then sandwiched a pair of goals around a long-distance marker from Timmy Hackett to make it 12-7 after three.
  • Brown would then score the first four goals of the fourth quarter to make it 12-11 with 9:10 to go.
  • The Hacketts then answered for Bryant. Timmy found Johnny with a perfect crossing pass and Johnny fired it low.
  • Just over a minute later, Johnny found Timmy cutting through the middle and Timmy finished quickly to make it 14-11.
  • Goals from Connor McMahon, Groeninger and Goltz would close it out down the stretch.
