SMITHFIELD, R.I. (AP) _ Bryant University’s Board of Trustees has revoked an honorary degree to Bill Cosby, citing accusations of sexual assault.
The Rhode Island school said on its website Thursday that Cosby’s "egregious conduct" that he acknowledged in a public deposition is "inconsistent with the character, values and behavior" it expects of the holder of an honorary degree.
Bryant conferred the honorary degree to Cosby in 1994. It said that by revoking Cosby’s degree it upholds the values, character, and mission of Bryant University.
Drexel University in Philadelphia on Thursday also rescinded an honorary degree to Cosby, joining several schools that have similarly yanked honors to him.
The comedian has never been charged with a crime and has denied allegations that he drugged and sexually assaulted women.
