Bryant University students arrested in campus assault incident

SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WLNE) – Three Bryant University students were arrested on assault charges Monday afternoon in Smithfield.

Joseph Kasperzyk, 19, of 155 New Haven, Ct., Zahir Williams, 20, Bronx, N.Y. and Shelton McNeal, 20, of Lakeland, Florida, were arrested without incident around 3:00 p.m. Monday in connection with an incident on Sunday.

Smithfield Police responded to a call from Bryant University Public Safety around 2:00 a.m. Sunday for reports of an assault at a University townhouse.

Students told officers that they were woken up by the suspects entering the townhouse, banging on bedroom doors and ordering the occupants out of their rooms.

Police said Kasperzyk, Williams and McNeal then assaulted two of the residents, broke a TV, and tore posters down from the walls.    

Kasperzyk, Williams and McNeal were arraigned on charges Breaking & Entering, Simple Assault, Disorderly Conduct and Conspiracy. All three were released on $1000 bail and will appear next in court on July 8th.

The incident is under investigation.
