Burlingame State Campground employee tests positive for COVID-19

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM) has announced that an employee of the vendor that runs Burlingame State Campground has tested positive for coronavirus.

This employee is part of a three-person team that cleans the campground restrooms from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m.  The staff has little interaction with the public, due to the bathrooms being closed during cleaning.

The Rhode Island Department of Health has contacted the employee, and initiated contact tracing. The employee worked four days while symptomatic, last working August 31.  The employees two coworkers have been tested and are awaiting their results.

Upon opening the campgrounds on June 30, DEM assessed the layout of each campground and set limits on the number of available campsites to create more room for physical social distancing between campers.
