Byrant’s Rico McCray of Middletown Named NEC Offensive Players of the Week

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Redshirt junior Ricardo McCray (Middletown, R.I.) had a career day against Central Connecticut last Saturday and on Monday was named the Northeast Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season.

McCray exploded in the second half to lead the Bulldogs to a 31-3 victory over Central Connecticut on national TV, finishing with a career-high 243 yards and three touchdowns on just 12 carries. McCray averaged an astounding 20.3 yards per carry and his rushing total was the sixth-most in a single game in program history. McCray’s big day helped the Bulldogs put up a season-high and a Division I-record 353 rushing yards.

With the game tied 3-3 at the half, McCray scored three-consecutive touchdowns to break the deadlock. He erupted for an 82-yard scoring run to make it 10-3 Bulldogs then followed with a one-yard plunge. McCray put the game away with a 57-yard burst halfway through the fourth quarter.
