California ends Smithfield’s Run at the Little League World Series
WILLIAMSPORT, P.A. (WLNE) — The magical run came to an end Tuesday night for the Smithfield Little Leaguers.
El Segundo, California defeated the Rhode Island state champs, 9-3, in an elimination game at Lamade Stadium.
The West representatives were able to get the pitch count up for Smithfield ace Connor Curtis early and score four runs in the first two frames.
El Segundo built a 9-0 lead at one point.
The boys from Rhode Island scored three times in the bottom of the 6th to get on the board before California closed out the victory.
Smithfield’s run ends after tying a record for wins by a Rhode Island team in the World Series with two victories.
