Cam Newton Returns After COVID Protocol Mishap, QB Competition Continues

After five days away from the Patriots because of a team described “misunderstanding” of the NFL’s COVID-19 protocols, Cam Newton returned to the practice field Thursday in time for the final joint practice against the New York Giants.

In a scrimmage against New York, Newton took the first, first team repetitions.

Rookie QB Mac Jones took the second, throwing an interception that was later called back and leading the New England offense on a long touchdown drive.

This after Jones shined in Newton’s absence with arguably his best practice as a Patriot Wednesday.
