Car crashes into Cranston building following police pursuit

WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) – A police chase that started in Warwick, ended in Cranston as a man drove his car into a building. 

Warwick Police responded to an apparent disabled vehicle, when they noticed the driver was showing signs of intoxication.

The driver was approached while pulled over on West Shore Road, but took off on Warwick Ave towards Cranston. 

Police decided to disengage their chase with the driver as his speed increased dangerously.

Once in Cranston, the car crashed into 145 Park Avenue, where the driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to Rhode Island Hospital.

The driver is being identified as 54-year-old Robert Disumma of Providence. 

At this time he is being charged with eluding a police officer and other motor vehicle offenses, and more charges may be filed once the toxicology report is released.
