Car crashes into Pawtucket home’s gas line, forces evacuation

PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — The Pawtucket Police Department said a car crashed into a home and ruptured its gas line Wednesday night, forcing the residents to evacuate.

Police told ABC 6 News that the driver of a white Honda Civic allegedly swerved to avoid an accident when they drove through a fence and into the home at 27 South St.

Firefighters said they were able to shut off the gas, preventing the need for further evacuations. No injuries were reported from the crash.

Residents of the home were allowed back in after Rhode Island Energy inspected the damaged gas line and the building was deemed structurally sound.

No further information was immediately released.
