Car fire causes traffic jam in downtown Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Transportation said that a car fire caused major traffic delays Thursday morning.

The scene was cleared just before 8:30 a.m.

Traffic was backed up on both sides of Interstate 95 and on the southbound side of Route 146.

The right lane of Interstate 95 south was blocked.

Delays on Interstate 95 south were as long as 32 minutes between Roosevelt Avenue in Pawtucket to the Interstate 195 exit in Providence.

The fire was first reported at 7:45 a.m.
