Providence Police are investigating after a car going through a public housing neighborhood was hit by bullets early Friday morning.

Police say Marilyn Rivera, 33, whose residence is not immediately available, told them she realized her Mazda CX-9 was hit by two bullets when she stopped on Suffolk Street after driving through the Chad Brown public housing project on June 19th before 1 a.m.

Rivera and her two passengers heard firework-like sounds and says one bullet hit the trunk and another hit a passenger door.

A witness told Officials they saw two men wearing hoodie sweatshirts shoot handguns at the car near the intersection of Suffolk and June Streets and ran off.

A white Jeep Cherokee with four or five people was seen leaving the scene at the time.
