Car Plunges Down Embankment in Cranston

A Cranston woman is lucky to be alive tonight after her car hit a snowbank and plunged nearly 100 feet down an embankment.

69 year-old Kathleen Gunion was driving home just before 9am Monday when her car hit a snowbank at the dead end of Bracken Street, jumped the guardrail and flew 25 feet through the air before hitting the embankment and sliding another 50 feet.

Gunion was trapped inside the heavily-damaged car for over an hour but was not seriously hurt.  Cranston firefighters described the rescue as a “mountain rescue in Cranston” considering the steep, slippery slope that required them to anchor themselves and the car to a truck at the top of the hill.

ABC6 Reporter Erica Ricci has the details.
