A car seen speeding down a New Bedford street ended
up in a fatal crash, killing the passenger and sending the driver to the
hospital.

Around 11:30 Friday night, a New Bedford Police Officer saw a
black Jaguar speeding down Route 18 at a speed of
about 80-100 mph. While he tried to track the car down, another passerby also

car had struck a tree and knocked it down.

The car was heavily damaged and both
driver and passenger had to be extricated.

The passenger, 28-year-old Winnitue
Montrond of New Bedford,
was pronounced dead at the hospital. The driver, 30-year-old Luismiguel
Fernandes of Dorchester, Mass.,
was sent to Rhode Island
Hospital with
life-threatening injuries.

The car belonged to Montrond's
girlfriend.

The accident is still under
