Card Reading Device Found on Local ATM

A customer at a local ATM recently spotted something wrong, a machine designed to steal from the machine's users.

A card reader, and a camera to read PIN numbers was recently discovered at the Sovereign Bank on Newport Ave. in East Providence. A customer using the machine put in the wrong card, and when it was rejected, the card reader fell off the machine.

The man quickly took the evidence to the East Providence Police. Police believe that the main reason the card reader fell off, was because the adhesive used to place it on the machine was no match for the recent string of hot days.

Police are now trying to figure out just how long the card reader was on the machine.ABC6 Reporter Erin Logan talked to customers, who also want to know how long the device was there, and if they might be at risk of having their information stolen…
