Care New England Hospitals ramp up COVID-19 testing

WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) – Today ABC 6 reporter Amanda Pitts spoke to Robin Neale Care New England’s Director of Infection Protection on how they are ramping up testing for COVID-19.

Kent Hospital and Women and Infants Hospital now have machines to test for COVID-19, where they can turn around test results in hours rather than days.

Neale said, “Quick turnaround time allows us to make decisions withing 2–3 hours on where the patient should be placed within the hospital… and under what precautions, so that healthcare workers can care for them safely.”

The two new machines are expected to be up and running later this week.

The hospital confirmed that they do have a drive-thru testing site there, but only those referred by a doctor can be tested there.
