Celtics name two home games ‘Bill Russell Tribute Games’

BOSTON (WLNE) — The Boston Celtics announced Thursday that they’ll be honoring Bill Russell in two separate home games during the upcoming season.

Russell, an 11-time NBA Champion with the Celtics, passed away last month at 88 years old.

Both the home opener against the Philadelphia 76ers on Oct. 18 and the Feb. 12 matchup against the Memphis Grizzlies have been named “Bill Russell Tribute Games.”

The team will honor Russell’s life with tributes throughout both games.

On opening night, the Celtics will unveil a new alternate uniform that will be a tribute to Russell.

Boston’s full schedule for the 2022-23 NBA season was released Wednesday.
