Central Coventry Fire District ordered to return ladder truck

A judge has ordered that a ladder truck purchased by the Central Coventry Fire Department be returned.

Judge Brian Stern rejected the request of the Central Coventry Fire Union to keep a ladder truck recently purchased by the Fire Department. The union said the truck was necessary for public safety since it was the only ladder truck in the district.

The newly elected fire department board voted to return the truck earlier this month stating that it will save the tax payers approximately $100,000 a month.

During court proceedings it was argued that the department will also save additional money on insurance costs and staffing requirements for the truck.

The truck was purchased in 2009 from Pierce Manufacturing for a payment of close to $100,000 a month. The truck will be returned to Pierce Manufacturing in Wisconsin.
