PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) _ The mayor of Central Falls has helped catch two suspected car thieves.

Mayor James Diossa was on his way to meet a former police superintendent for lunch in downtown Providence on Wednesday when he saw a car he recognized go by.

The report says two strangers were in the silver 2013 Chevrolet Cruze owned by his friend, state Rep. Carlos Tobon. Tobon had told Diossa that his car had been stolen in Providence Monday.

Diossa followed the car and called Providence Police. Police stopped the car and arrested the two people after a short chase on foot.
