CENTRAL FALLS, RI (WLNE) – The Central Falls Police Department is asking for help from students of all Central Falls schools in helping name their new male K-9.

The K-9 German Shepard still needs to complete a month’s long training program in areas such as drug searches, article searches, tracking, and obedience. He is expected to become certified and join the police department early next year, police say.

But before he begins his training he needs a name.

So Central Falls Police are asking students to submit names for the new dog and if your school’s name is picked you will get to meet him.

At that point, the K-9 and his handler will take the oath of office at your school.

Central Falls police ask for the names to be kept clean, respectful, and creative.

All schools are asked to have a name they would like to submit by Dec. 15.

On that day School Resource Officer Randy Roberts will be going to each school to pick up the name selection and the winning name will be announced on Dec. 22.
