The once bankrupt city of Central Falls now has a $1.7 million operating surplus.

An audit conducted by Marcum LLP revealed that Central Falls had a $1.3 million surplus in 2013 and $400,000 from 2012 adding up to a combined $1.7 million.

The city is now cutting costs on city spending and collecting more than expected in property taxes.

It is unclear at this point how the city will spend the surplus money.
