Chafee Tours Storm Damage by Helicopter

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – Rhode Island's governor is expected to take a helicopter tour of the state to survey storm damage.

The Rhode Island National Guard says it is preparing a Blackhawk helicopter to take the governor, state and federal officials on a Monday tour.

Chafee issued a statement Sunday night saying state residents survived the passing of Irene “without the loss of life or serious injury and with great courage.”

Kevin McBride, the director of the state's Emergency Management Agency, says the state's Emergency Operations Center will remain open Monday as officials develop a final plan for recovery operations.
