WAREHAM, MA (WLNE) – Charges have been filed against a Falmouth man accused of throwing his dog off a Wareham bridge.

The Wareham Department of Natural Resources (DNR) announced Friday that Kevin Ouellette, 51, of East Falmouth MA, is facing multiple charges after he was caught on surveillance dropping a dog off of the Point Independence Bridge on Onset Avenue, before jumping into the East River himself.

The report revealed that when interviewed by a Natural Resources Officer after the incident, Ouellette implied that the dog belonged to him, and that the animal enjoyed being tossed into the water.

Further investigation revealed that the dog did not belong to Ouellette, and was taken from its owner without permission. Investigators determined that Ouellette “had inflicted unnecessary cruelty upon the dog” by throwing it from the bridge.

As a result of the investigation, and through the assistance of the Animal Rescue League of Boston’s Law Enforcement Division, the Wareham Police Department, and the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department, The Wareham DNR filed the following charges against Ouellette:

  • Animal Cruelty by custodian
  • Larceny from a building
  • Municipal by-law violation (Bridge Jumping)

No word yet on when Ouellette is expected to appear in Wareham District Court.
