Charlestown kicks-off 37th annual seafood festival Friday

CHARLESTOWN, R.I. (WLNE) — The Charlestown Seafood Festival is back for it’s 37th year.

The Seafood Festival is the biggest fundraiser for the Charlestown Chamber of Commerce, and funds raised go to the town’s mission to support local businesses and boost tourism.

“This event supports almost everything we do for the community. The Charlestown Seafood Festival is our primary fundraiser,” said Heather Paliotta, executive director of the Charlestown Chamber of Commerce and director of The Charlestown Seafood Festival.”

Food lovers young, old, and everyone in between made the most out of Friday’s weather, and hit Ninigret Park in search of their favorite meal.

“A lot of people have been coming for years, too. And that’s what I look forward to. Seeing the people as they come back,” said Paul Drumm, former owner of Kenyon’s Grist Mill.

The festival is sponsored by Charlestown Chamber of Commerce, Finetco Family Lumberyards, Westerly Hospital, RE/MAX,  Dunkin’, Whalers Brewing Company, McLaughlin & Moran, Pure Eco Spa, Gooseneck Vineyards, Poland Media Group, and South County Tourism Council.

Admission is $12 for adults and children under 10-years-old get free admission. Military with ID and Seniors 65+ $9.

Sponsors will also hold a food drive on Saturday to benefit the Johnnycake Center of Westerly and RI CAN of Charlestown. For more on how you can help, click here.
