WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WLNE) – The Department of Children, Youth and Families is investigating after a child was taken to Hasbro Children’s Hospital in June.

DCYF said in a statement Tuesday that the child, a 3-year-old boy from Woonsocket, was transported to the hospital on June 5 with injuries.

Woonsocket Police confirmed that the child fell from a third story window near the corner of Dean Street and Privelege Street. The child and his 6-year-old brother were in the care of their grandmother at the time.

According to the statement the child’s injuries were likely caused by maltreatment, and the Office of the Child Advocate has been notified.

Officials sad the family has had prior involvement with DCYF, but was not involved with the department at the time of the injuries.
