Children’s Friend: Helping R.I.’s Vulnerable Kids

Agency Hosting Annual Fundraiser on Friday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – Children’s Friend is a local agency that helps Rhode Island’s youngest and most vulnerable children.

They operate 17 centers in Providence, Pawtucket, and Central Falls.  With a staff of educators, social workers therapists, nutritionists and nurses, they are able to come together to ensure that kids can grow in a healthy way.

CEO David Caprio says, “Pandemic or not, there are so many vulnerable children in Rhode Island who need our support to grow healthy and have a chance.  But the pandemic certainly prevented eyes on children and in some cases, created more isolation in families.”

Caprio says that so often at Children’s Friend they see little ones who are neglected.  A parent who wants to do the right thing but just doesn’t have the means. And that’s where they can help.  They can assist with providing adequate food, shelter and health care for a child.

Friday is Children’s Friend’s annual Investing in Our Children Luncheon.  It is a hybrid event this year with some people in person and others joining online.   While Children’s Friend operates with federal funding, there are limits to how that money is spent.  Proceeds from this fundraiser allow the agency to go a little further.  It enables them to assist with some of the most basic of needs like diapers or food vouchers.

ABC 6 has been involved in this event for 10 years now and Good Morning Providence Anchor Doreen Scanlon will be serving as emcee.  To learn more about the event, click here.
