Providence, R.I. – Brown senior forward Tamenang Choh (Lowell, MA) and junior forward David Mitchell(Roxbury, MA) have been named co-captains of the 2020-21 Brown men’s basketball team in an announcement made by Bears’ head coach Mike Martin.

“Tamenang and David are both highly deserving of the opportunity to serve as captains of our team for the 2020-2021 season,” said Martin.  “Both display all of the key characteristics of great leaders on the court, in the locker room, throughout campus, and in the community.  I’m excited for both of them and for our team.”

A two-time Second Team All-Ivy selection, Choh had declared for the NBA Draft, but decided to return to Brown for his senior season. Choh, the co-recipient of the J. Richmond Fales Trophy as the team’s MVP,averaged 13.4 points, 8.3 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game for the Bears and posted eight double-doubles throughout his junior season, posting 20 points and 12 rebounds against both Penn and Bryant. Recognized as one of the outstanding rebounders in the Ivy League, he led the Ivy League in rebounding as a sophomore and his 8.1 rebounds per game were third in the conference last season. An all-around player, who often brings the ball up court, Choh led the Bears and ranked fifth in the Ivy League in assists (47).

A strong defensive presence on the court for the Bears, Mitchell often drew the assignment of the opponent’s top player. The recipient of the Dave Zucconi ’55 “Unsung Hero” Award in 2020,  Mitchell has played in 58 career games in his first two seasons at Brown. Last year, Mitchell opened the season with 11 points and eight rebounds in a win over Bryant and grabbed a career high 10 rebounds in the Bears win at Harvard. He also pulled down nine rebounds in games against NJIT and Yale.
