Churches were directed to not pass out palms, but masses were conducted virtually

Palm Sunday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – Governor Gina Raimondo made the difficult decision yesterday in asking religious leaders to not distribute palms this Palm Sunday.

Though palms were not distributed, many church services conducted online celebrations of mass.

All masses have been closed to the public since March 17 to practice social distance protocol.

Bishop Tobin said, “Although the cathedral will be empty, our hearts will be full – with the joy and peace and confident hope that the Resurrection of Christ inspires in us.”

Easter celebrates the resurrection of Jesus three days after His Crucifixion on Good Friday. It also marks an end to the Lenten season.

As many parishes have transitioned to virtual masses, we show you the Palm Sunday service from St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in East Providence.
