PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – Police responded to Providence City Hall shortly after noon Thursday for reports of a suspicious package.

According to officials, police were notified after city hall employees saw an individual enter the premises, leave a package on the ground, and leave.

Officers evacuated the building before x-raying the contents of the package and giving the all clear.

Police said the contents of the package were not dangerous, but believe it was left unattended on purpose, to cause a panic.

“We think that someone deliberately left that, without a doubt, to cause mischief, if you will”, said Public Safety Commissioner Steven Pare.

Police are looking for two potential suspects they believe to be responsible. No description has been released at this time.
