City of New Bedford offering recycling cart loans

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) –  On Monday, February 7, The City of New Bedford will offer a Recycling Cart Loan Program for those who need recycling capacity. The program will be available on a temporary basis.

“We understand more residents are at home now and generating more waste. This Recycling Cart Loan Program offers more space to recycle all clean bottles, cans, jugs, jars, paper and cardboard,” said Jennifer Vieira, acting director of the Department of Facilities and Fleet Management.

Single family homes receive one 65-galon recycling cart per parcel. Two family homes, Multifamily homes, and Mixed-use and commercial buildings that are part of the City’s collection program receive one 95-galon recycling cart per parcel.

There will be no delivery fee. Residents have already purchased minimum amounts of carts from the City. Carts offered by the City cannot be used for trash.

To request a cart contact The Department of Facilities and Fleet Management by phone at (508) 961-3008 or by email at Requests made before noon on Wednesday will be delivered by waste management contractors on Thursday or Friday of that week, depending on staffing. Requests made after 12 p.m. on Wednesday will be delivered the following week.

The cart will remain City property, and the City will have the right to take the cart at any time. If a property owner would like to return the cart, they can call (508) 961-3008 to arrange to have it picked up.
