City of Providence celebrates St. Patrick’s Day with music and dance

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Mayor Brett Smiley invited the community to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at Providence City Hall.

The annual celebration featured performances from the Rhode Island Highlanders Pipe Band, the Mt. Pleasant High School Kilties Chorus, a traditional dance from the Goulding School of Irish Dance and a poem reading by Dr. William Hogan.

Smiley also discussed Providence’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade as well as awarding the parade committee and organizers for their contributions to the city.

Deputy Grand Marshal Dan McGowan also gave a keynote address at the meeting.

Providence’s St. Patrick’s Day parade will be held Sat. March 18 beginning at 11:00 a.m.
