City to demolish ‘abandoned’ mill building in New Bedford

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — New Bedford will take down a mill building the city says has been abandoned for years.

Last week, a Superior Court judge granted the city’s request to demolish the building at 1 Rear Coffin Avenue. The city found it to be a “danger to life or limb.”

The city has plans for the property and has been looking to remove the building for several years.

“The building was beyond repair and its removal ultimately will allow for the construction of the long-planned Riverwalk in the Northend,” Mayor Jon Mitchell said.

A date for the demolition has yet to be announced.
