Click it or Ticket Traffic Stop Leads to Felony Charges for Driver

A routine traffic stop in Wareham turned into a half-dozen felony charges for one driver, according to police.

Wareham Police have beefed up patrols as part of the Click it or Ticket seatbelt enforcement campaign and one officer on one of those extra patrols stopped 33 year-old David Monteiro of Wareham for an expired inspection sticker on Saturday.

In the car, police found a 9mm pistol with the serial numbers defaced as well as a small amount of prescription drugs.  The officer also noticed that Monteiro had an outstanding from Fall River for failure to appear on charges disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

Monteiro was charged this morning with carrying a firearm without a license, defacing a firearm serial number, possession of ammunition and the drugs, as well as operating the car with a suspended license.
