Guided Sculpture and Garden Tour @ Linden Place
Aug 7 @ 10:30 am – 12:30 pm

Take advantage of summer weather with a special guided tour focused on the statuary, outbuildings and gardens at Linden Place, the 1810 Federal-style mansion located in downtown Bristol.

Explore the historic Linden Place sculpture and rose gardens while you learn the history of the man who developed the property as we see it now, Samuel Pomeroy Colt. In this time of Covid, a garden tour is the perfect way to enjoy the outdoors and learn something new, while being socially distant. Hear the stories behind the Greco-Roman statuary, view the 200-year old coach and garage and learn the legend of the “rampant colts” that are scattered throughout the lawns. Discover the direct ties between Linden Place and Colt State Park and learn some of the beloved park’s background. As you tour the grounds, you will have a chance to appreciate the 200-year-old mansion from a different view. Face masks will be required, as well as social distancing to make the tour both safe and enjoyable.

The tour will take place Friday, August 7th at 10:30am. Admission is $12, $10 for seniors and students. Reservations are required. Call (401)253-0390 to reserve a spot or e-mail info@lindenplace.org.

“Tales of the Slave Trade” Walking Tour @ Linden Place
Aug 15 @ 11:00 am – 12:30 pm

Linden Place Museum will host a walking tour of Linden Place Mansion and downtown Bristol, focused specifically on Bristol’s DeWolf Family and their involvement in the transatlantic slave trade. The DeWolf family, Bristol’s premier family in the 18th and early 19th centuries, was once one of the largest traders of slaves in New England.
Learn how Bristol, New England, and all of America were impacted by the slave trading DeWolf’s of Linden Place from museum educator, Robin Tremblay. Tremblay has extensively researched Rhode Island’s connections to slavery and has led many tours along Bristol’s slavery trail.
The guided tour takes place on Saturday, August 15th at 11am and begins at Linden Place, the Federal-style mansion built by architect Russell Warren for George DeWolf. The tour then continues through the center of historic Bristol and down to the waterfront on Thames Street, pointing out significant sites tied to Bristol’s lengthy and profitable involvement in the slave trade.
The tour is $15, $10 for Linden Place members. Reservations are required and the tour is limited to 6 people. Masks are required and social distancing rules will apply. For more information and reservations, please call the Linden Place office at 253-0390 or visit www.lindenplace.org.
