SOMERSET, Mass. (WLNE) – A Texas company is hosting an informational session in Somerset about transforming an old power plant into a new one that is fueled by mesquite wood pellets.

Houston-based GSXI wants to build the new plant at the site of the old Montaup Electric Company building. But the plan is being met with mixed reviews.

The Coalition for Clean Air South Coast says another power plant is not what the town needs.

Others say anything that brings jobs and revenue is welcomed.

The Brayton Point power plant closed in town in May. Montaup Electric closed in 2010.

The GSXI proposal is in the early stages. ABC6 News will have more on the proposal on ABC6 News at 11 following the informational meeting.
