Convicted sex offender arrested for spying on Cranston woman with drone

CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — The Cranston Police Department announced a convicted sex offender was arrested for spying on a woman through her bathroom window with a drone.
According to police, Christopher Jones was tracked down and arrested after they received a 911 call from a woman reported a drone peering in her window.
Officials said the woman victim, who remains unidentified, returned to her Midland Road home after work and was preparing to use the shower when she heard a buzzing noise from outside.
The woman went to her back yard thinking the sound had something to do with her pool when she noticed a drone hovering outside her bathroom window, police said.
When the victim approached the drone, she said it moved quickly in an attempt to get away from her when it crashed into a tree and hit the ground.
Police said the victim disabled the drone in her pool and called 911 shortly after.
Authorities said Jones, who is a convicted sex offender, was tracked down and admitted to being the operator of the drone. He was arrested and is facing video voyeurism charges, which is a felony.
Federal law states a person is guilty of video voyeurism when they look into an occupied residence with a camera for the purpose of sexual arousal or gratification.
Jones is awaiting arraignment for his felony charge at Cranston Police Headquarters and no further information was immediately released.
