Cool week with a few showers along the way

PROVIDENCE, RI  (WLNE) —  After a soggy Sunday, Southern New England was dry on Monday.

Observed Rainfall

It was a much needed soaking for our area as we have been running abnormally dry here in the month of April.

Rain Stat

We will see the return of some wet weather Tuesday afternoon, as another slow-moving upper-level low spins in some instability. Scattered showers will begin to pop up after lunchtime – there could be an embedded thunderstorm or two as well.

Futurecast With Temps1

Wednesday looks mainly dry from start to finish, though a very stray shower to our north can’t be ruled out. More showers move in Wednesday night and last into Thursday morning before a dry end to the week.

Futurecast With Temps2

Temperatures this week will be running on the cool side of average, though not particularly abnormal. The reasoning is an Atlantic blocking pattern that keeps the upper-low at bay as it continues to spin in cooler air.

Jet Stream Pattern

Looking ahead to the weekend, the forecast is shaping up to be very similar to the last two weekends: dry and mostly cloudy Saturday, rain likely Sunday. The timing of a few pieces of energy are still in poor agreement with the computer models so the jury is still out on the exact prognosis, stay tuned!

Have a great night!
