CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — An investigation is underway after a correctional officer was stabbed at the ACI Friday morning.
"We can confirm that a Correctional Officer was assaulted and stabbed at the Maximum Security facility. Thanks to his training the officer was not seriously injured. He was taken to RI Hospital where he is being treated. The State Police is investigating the incident. Please contact the State Police for further inquiries," said J.R. Ventura, Public Relations Officer for the State of Rhode Island Department of Corrections.
A spokesman from the Rhode Island Brotherhood of Correctional Officers (RIBCO) identified the assailant as John Carillo.
RIBCO noted Carillo is no stranger to violence, having fatally stabbed Donald Price, another correctional officer, in 1973.
