Another Correctional Officer has been attacked by an inmate, making it the third time a correctional officer has been assaulted this year.

The RI Brotherhood of Correctional Officers says that on Monday, a sentenced inmate serving time at the Service Intake Center punched the officer in the face after he refused to return to his cell.

The press release states that inmate Tychonn Banks, who became combative after refusing the order, viciously assaulted the officer, striking him several times in the face.

Additional officers responded to restrain the inmate, and the officer was sent to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment. The officer did not report back to work and at last check was still recovering from the injuries.

This attack is the third assault on a correctional officer so far this year that has resulted in serious bodily injury.
