Corruption Trial Set for Former N. Providence Councilors
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – A trial date has been set for three former North Providence council members charged with corruption.
Jury selection is scheduled to begin Sept. 21 in U.S. District Court in Providence before Judge Mary Lisi.
John Zambarano, Raymond Douglas III and Joseph Burchfield are accused of sharing in a $25,000 bribe from a local developer who sought a zoning change for a proposed supermarket. They have all pleaded not guilty.
Pretrial motions are due in the coming weeks, and the trial date could be pushed back as it gets closer.
