PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – Counseling services will be available for Providence students who are mourning the death of a 15-year-old who was shot on the second day of classes.

City officials say they’ve arranged for trauma support professionals to be available to students at several Providence recreation centers and community locations while schools are closed on Monday through Wednesday.

Schools are scheduled to be closed until Thursday due to Rosh Hashana and Primary Day.

William Parsons was shot Wednesday outside Providence Career and Technical Academy. He attended nearby Central High School.

Police say he was an innocent bystander.

A 16-year-old boy reputedly associated with a gang is facing murder and other charges in the shooting. His name hasn’t been released because of his age.
