Coventry High School put into lockdown due to false alarm

COVENTRY, R.I. — Coventry police responded to a Sonitrol lockdown alarm at Coventry High School early Wednesday morning.
According to officials, a lockdown procedure went into effect. Students who were in the building were locked down for a short period of time, but were soon evacuated.
Police did a systematic clearing of the building room by room. The school was cleared by 7:40 a.m. .
School officials are investigating the cause of the accidental alarm.
Authorities say a meeting is planned for Wednesday with school officials and police to review the response.
