Coventry man hit and killed after pulling over on I-95 in Exeter

Exeter, RI (WLNE) – A 20-year-old Coventry man died early Saturday morning after being hit on I-95 in Exeter.

Rhode Island State Police said Christian Hull had pulled his car, a Honda Civic, into the breakdown lane of 95 north near 165 just after midnight. RISP said Hull turned on his hazard lights and headlights, then stepped out of the car.

Next, investigators said a Chevy Silverado pickup truck traveling in the same direction also drove into the breakdown lane. Police said the truck crashed into the back of Hull’s stopped car. Police said the impact of that crash caused Hull’s car to hit him while he was standing in front of the car.

The crash also forced both the truck and Hull’s car out into the lanes of travel. A third vehicle, a Nissan Frontier, could not stop in time and hit the truck.

Christian Hull died at the scene.

RISP said the drivers of the Chevy Silverado and the Nissan Frontier were not hurt and showed no signs of impairment.

Investigators noted that there was heavy fog in the area at the time of the crash.

They ask any witnesses to contact the Hope Valley Barracks at 401-444-1068.
